Extraction of samples from COPAN NUCLEIC-CARD™ or other compatible sample collection devices is performed through a cylindrical punch head (puncher), which detaches a paper disk form the card containing the DNA sample and places it into one well of the PCR plate underneath.
The position where to punch the DNA sample on a card is defined manually by the user through two laser pointers.
1.2 mm puncher is complimentary with the standard system, while different punch sizes are available separately:
The instrument is capable to perform up to one puncher cleaning strike, preventing DNA carry-over from a sample to the next one. Performances are optimized when processing COPAN framed NUCLEIC-CARD™ with cleaning area: the user has the possibility to load a card on the integrated card holder, which automatically handles the card when punching and performs the cleaning strike.
Moreover, the instrument integrates a vacuum pump in order to aspirate card debris from the punching area and minimize any cross-contamination phenomena, and an ionizer to remove statics and avoid sample jumping from well to well.
In order to improve the easiness of use, a footswitch pedal can be integrated with the instrument.
CPA200™ is compatible with all the sample collection devices currently present in the market, including Copan NUCLEIC-CARD™, Whatman FTA™ cards, Bode Buccal DNA Collector™ and Bode Buccal 2™.
The system allows the possibility to re-process already punched cards.
Plate holder can be customized in order to process a specific 96-wells PCR plate type (except for deep-well plates).
A 96-wells PCR plate can contain up to 96 different Human DNA samples: for this reason, CPA200™ equips barcode readers to ensure the traceability of processed cards and PCR plates.
A dedicated vision system can automatically check the presence of the punched sample into the relevant well by taking pictures of the well both before and after punching.
CPA200™ can be connected with a LIMS or with a separate computer to allow both import and export functionalities.
The instrument can import .txt worklists containing information about PCR plates barcodes, plates layouts, cards barcodes and number of punches per well, and assist the user in performing the run.
It is possible to export reports of the completed run with the following formats:
- .pdf format
- 3130 and 3500 AB Genetic Analyzer sequencer compatible files (.txt format)
- LIMS compatible files (.txt format)
