    Can COPAN Genetics 4N6FLOQSwabs® be used for diagnostics?

    No. 4N6FLOQSwabs® Genetics are not intended for diagnostic use.

    What is a flocked swab?

    FLOQSwabs® comprise of a solid molded plastic applicator shaft with a tip that can vary in size and shape. The tip of the applicator is coated with short Nylon® fibers that are arranged in a perpendicular fashion.

    What is the difference between a FLOQSwabs® and a traditional swab?

    FLOQSwabs® have no internal absorbent core to disperse and entrap the specimen, unlike traditional fiber wound swabs, which resemble a mattress or cushion.

    Why are FLOQSwabs® better than traditional swabs?

    Because of the design, flocked swabs are better than traditional swabs because they absorb more sample due to capillarity, and because the sample stays on the surface, it is eluted rapidly and on its entirety.

    Is the line of Genetics 4N6FLOQSwabs® DNase and RNase-Free?

    Yes. COPAN's 4N6FLOQSwabs® line is certified DNase, RNase-Free and is free of amplifiable human DNA.

    Do 4N6FLOQSwabs® inhibit PCR assays?

    No. Strict quality control measures and use of inhibitory-free components ensure that 4N6FLOQSwabs® are free of PCR inhibitors.

  • Rapid Elution

    4N6FLOQSwabs® immediately release sample into assay reagents, buffer solutions or solid absorbent substrates such as COPAN NUCLEIC-CARD™. Since there is no inner core to trap sample, recovery is dramatically improved as opposed to traditional fiber wound swabs.

    Free of human amplifiable DNA

    A qualitative detection approach (STR profiling) has been adopted when testing the samples of finished products for lot release. We aligned with the technical standard requiring STR profiling for consumables used in DNA sample analysis.

    Free of dectectable DNase and RNase
    Free of inhibitors to molecular amplification and str analysis 
    EO treatment

    Copan employs ethylene oxide as an additional method to reduce the risk of DNA contamination on the finished products.

    Staff elimination database 

    Copan maintains an STR database of all the people involved in the manufacturing of the forensic products. This is extended also to the staff dedicated to maintenance, housekeeping and QC controls. The database is anonymous and laboratories can request to verify whether a profile belongs to a Copan employee.

    Anatomic and ergonomic design

    Regular, anatomically and ergonomically shaped collection devices allow to collect samples from buccal area and under fingernails.

    Compability with different extraction method

    4N6FLOQSwabs® Genetics have been validated with numerous DNA extraction methods and complete profiles were obtained by sequencing the DNA extracted.

    Data Matrix Code Unique Identification

    Every 4N6FLOQSwabs® tube is identified with a data matrix code, assigning unique numeric number to each sample ensuring easy traceability and tracking.
